Located up to the slopes of the nearby hills, the ancient medieval village Grottammare is a few hundred meters distant from the sea. The Castle of Grottammare was probably built in the 10th Century and has been reinforced in 12th Century; today there are some remains as walls and the base of the tower. In the past, to enter the Castle, there were three gates: “Porta Marina” (near “Torrione della Battaglia”), “Porta Castello” (to reach “Oasi dei Monti”) and “Porta Maggiore” (demolished in the early 1900s). Entering the village there is Peretti Square, where you can see the “Torre dell’Orologio”, the “Teatro dell’Arancio” with Sisto V Pope on his facade, San Giovanni Church and the open gallery with a very beautiful view. An other interesting building is Saint Lucia Church, built by Sisto V Pope and located in one of the small street of the old village.
Set in one of the three old gates, there is the B&B Porta Marina, recently renovated, with all comforts. Carolina and her family will be waiting for you, to grant all of yours wishes for an unforgettable holiday.
